I have a betta, 4 corry and 4 loaches in now but was told the loaches will not work out do to the size of the tank. Pretty bumbed. I have two yoyos, two clowns and a zebra. All are juveniles. Is there anything I can do other than get a bigger tank which means a new T5 fixture, glasstop etc... or are there loaches I can have here?
I assume all these I have need to go back to the store - if they will take them that is.

20 gallon long, is that 30*12*12 inches?
I would say any which grow up to 2" should be fine in that, and try to go for a group of at least 6 for most species. As an example, I am planning to get 10 Yunnanilus sp. 'rosy'. which grow up to 3 cm for a smaller tank than that. Yunnanilus cruciatus is another excellent choice for a tank that size. Kuhli loaches are also a decent choice, even though they grow to 4", because they are "snake like".
Just check to make sure that the loaches you consider are compatible with your set up in terms of water parameters (pH, hardness and temperature) and the activity level of the Betta (some loaches can be a bit boistrous).
