Hello,

I am a new member and have to say thanks for the great site. I currently have 7 clowns that are 8 years old in my 125gal. I purchased 3 myself and housed them in a 55gal community setup for 5 years. The other 4 were bought by a close family member at the same time from a different source and were housed in a 55 gallon hex. I adopted the four from my family member in June '06. We both live in the same town, so water conditions were not a concern. I now have a nice school of 7. The largest and leader of the pack is about 6.5 inches. The smallest is about 4.5 inches.

That's a lovely tank. and lovely clowns. They look quite happy.
And yes, there are a few dots on that closeup.

It's a theory regarding evidence of clown males in breeding condition.

Here is a shot of "Big Tail's" head.

My opinion is that it is a dominant factor which would lead to the females being attracted to him. Likewise with many other male fish showing the best breeding colours.

My setup is a 125gal. 110watts of 10000K CF lighting hung in the center of the tank. The light is 48inches, the tank is 72 inches. This gives me bright light in the center of the tank and subdued light on the ends, while still providing the intensity to grow java moss, java ferns, anubias and crypts. Though after reading some posts I don't know how long my plants will last!
I filter with a large wet/dry that move 1000gph. I also use a HOB filter rated at 350gph. I perform 40 gallon water changes every 4 days. I also clean all the filter pads in tank water during water change time. My fish load is 7 clowns, 5 bsoemani rainbow, 10 SAE's, 1 old Chinese algae eater, 15 rummy nose tetra, and a spotted rapheal that I see every blue moon. My 125 has been up since July '05. All the fish were previously housed in a 55 and 29 that I combined into the 125g. The only fish I have added recently were the 4 adopted clowns mentioned previously. This set up was pretty much built around the clowns. I have a big complex of wood and rock for them.
