Well I did the deed today and finally got myself a replacement for my old, but trusty (and now dead) Canon A70.
A Canon A640 with 10.1 Mp. Here's a few test shots I took this afternoon. I seriously need to do some glass cleaning because it kept throwing the autofocus off and there's lots of things I need to tweak settings wize yet.
These aren't half bad though.
Vanmanenia hainanensis
'Spiney Norman', the unidentified
Gastromyzon sp.
Gastromyzon ocellatus.
Underside of a female
Sewellia lineolata.
It's insane! These images are at 18% of original size and this thing is a regular pocket-size camera, not an SLR

I shall try me best
This thing eats up memory cards like you wouldn't believe. I got a killer deal on a 3 pack of 1GB cards. The 32 Mb card with the camera is good for about eight full-res pics.

WOOHOO! Keep those pictures coming!
The cards keep getting cheaper and cheaper but the camera companies refuse to supply you with one that will hold more than a few shots. I assume they want you to spend a bunch on a large capacity card of their make but I don't think many people actually do that.
If you need more cards, keep an eye on slickdeals. It's not unusual to get SD cards for free or almost free after rebate.

Gorgeous pics! Can't wait to see the other loachies as well
Did you use the macro or regular setting, out of curiosity? I'm having some problems getting the autofocus on my Elph to work properly -- it likes taking pictures of gravel more than the fish. Argh. Then again, it might be a case of needing to give that glass a good scrub, like you said...

Botiine boys...............
One of the Czech-bred
histrionicas
Shame his head is out of focus.
A lovely mobile Clown.
And the same fish at rest.
What I'm finding is nice is being able to crop these fish out of a much larger picture and bring them up full frame without losing detail like happened with only 3.2 Mp.
The camera is on macro pierydys.
