Just in from the canal, including the world famous - possibly - yellow finned loaches.

That's one pretty loach.

It's good that you showed the wild fish to see their general health. They seem nice and fit and not skinny at all.

oh.. and do you know what the bottom of the canal look light?
Are there aquatic plants or is it all sand & rocks?
The water is pretty murky down there.

Very nice!! 8)

Best thing is if they become to large or aggressive, you can just pop them back in the canal.

These are very like the ones I had back in England. They had a beautiful light sky blue body and yellow fins. I kept them with several regular orange-finned modesta, but they were always far milder tempered than the other terrors. They had that same green sheen on their backs too.

The canal is a large artery diverting water originating from the river systems at Ayuttaya away from the Chao Praya and around Bangkok. The water is silted up with clay, but there is no rock. There is plenty of vegetation on the edge of the canal, but no purely aquatic plants. The loaches are only found in the wet season (which has just begun), and so probably originate quite a lot further upstream.

No one is too aggressive for my big tank!

You should be able to find Modesta in Malaysia too.

Not quite. A bunch of local boys have got a monopoly on the sluice gate for sale to the adjacent market. Previously I got my fish from them at the market rate, but now they have determined I am some rich, weird, city-dwelling fish collector, and want to charge me four times as much! I will be getting my fish from different sources.

The yellow finned loaches are very shy compared to the orange ones.

You see how famous they are!

Hi Yellowfinned , you got some pics ,fantastic , might need a bit of captive time , to see if they are yellow or orange finned , the yellow finned variety i had a few years ago, were quite similar to Modesta's but could be differentiated, due to the dorsal fin being the same colour as the body [bluish grey] as oppose to being red ,yellow or orange ,like the anal caudal, ventrals , in Modesta , Steve[thedarkone] knows this fish ! i dont think it has been named ? b t w nice Barbs also .
