Loaches Online Forum

Hey there,

a few days ago I visited one of my favourite fish stores, "Aquaristik Silbermann", and spontaneously decided to buy the last yoyo loach available. I don't have any other yoyos in my tank .. but 6 clowns and 5 zerbra loaches, and from what I've seen so far he's accpeting them as family and vice versa.

So, without further ado, let's go to the picture part, shall we.

To be honest, I'm not sure yet.
Like I said, it was an impulse buy and s/he was all alone in the shop tank except for some tetras so my thoughts were he'd be better of in my tank.
He seems to get along well with the other loaches, especially the striata. They "play catch" with each other, i.e. they "hunt" him and he hunts them back just like the striata do it among their own kind to establish a pecking order.

I will watch this closely and if he appears to be lonely I'll have to change it.

Lone B. almorhae are known to become moderately aggressive. It would be best if you could find him 3 or 4 buddies long-term, which will allow them to form a natural hierarchy and help to spread any aggression amongst themselves.

Lovely pictures. I agree with Emma, my lone yoyo was a bit aggressive to my other fish, even the couple platys I had in there at the time. But that stopped when I got more yoyos.

It's an anubias barleti, a plant generally recommended for loaches and chichlids.
While it's true that loaches leave the full-grown leafes alone, it is NOT true for the fresh soft ones as you can see. On the positive side, they seem to grow faster than the loaches can eat them .. for now.
