Hi,

I was watching some videos on Clown Loaches in Youtube and came across this comment someone made:

"clown actually get upto 24" (2foot) in the wild the largest know captive clown loach i belive is in an american public aquarium and it is 22" and has apperently been in the tank over 40+ years."

I am very curious to know if anyone can verify the claim of a 22" CL somewhere in America.

Thanks, :) :D

I believe the 2' clowns they are referring to are at Capitol Aquarium in Sacramento, CA.

I’ve seen pics and videos of them; and the size that some people claim is an exaggeration. I think the clowns there are really only 12”-16” long.

I've heard of 18" clowns as thick as a grapefruit from the owner at my LFS. I don't know if I believe him either.

The problem here is that people's interpretation of length may be total or body length i.e. TL or SL

A 16" SL fish could be around 20" TL so there's a big leeway in what one's minds-eye perceives given a dimension.

If there were a 22" Clown out there I have to believe we would have heard about it by now. The Sacramento Clowns are well recorded in posts on LOL over many years. If there was something out there bigger somebody would be making a claim to that effect so we would have heard it.

Martin.

time to go for mega loach hunting again!

On a serious note, I was told that 14 inch clowns are very rare, but can be bought at sky high price.Double the price of a 11 inch clown.unbelievable.
