I have a 90 gallon tank that i am trying to avoid buying a stand for, but i have a very sturdy Sauder tv stand that is 6x2. i stood on the weakest part of it and it did not even sqeak as i am by no means light (320lbs) but thats only a third of the wieght for a stocked 90. Just thought someone on here might no how to reinforce such a thing or is this type of stand not even the right material. My actual aquarium stands dont seem any better made then this tv stand,i guess kinda hard to help someone with this without seeing it. But any info would be great. Thanks

Don't take my word for it but I'd have thought that, as long as there are enough vertical supports under the flat surface, it should be ok. (As long as your floor doesn't give way beneath the whole lot!)

My 75 gal tank only has 4 vertical supports, this tv stand has 6 and is half the height of it as well. The floor under the tank would be a thin layer of carpet but under that is cement, so that should'nt be an issue. I would just hate to have it give way while at work, just for trying to be cheap.

You must know a carpenter, or have a friend who does? I would recommend having someone look at it that has some understanding of construction basics.

Is this an open stand, like a table? Or does it have sides?

An open structure like a table can collapse sideways.
If the sides and back are enclosed and the siding is securely attached to all the legs then this acts as a bracing and prevents the table from collapsing.
The same sort of support can be achieved by diagonal bracing that is properly installed.

Look at the connectors. If they are screws, nuts and bolts or similar, then the stand is pretty strong.
Nails are not so good.
Staples are the worst.
Staples + Glue might be OK, if the wood is arranged in a way that the upper pieces rest on the lower pieces, not just stapled to the sides of the uprights.

can you post some pictures? Overall, and some close ups of the corners and connections?

Well thank you for everyones imput, i do not know a carpenter (wish i did) i looked at it more after reading some of your suggestions and to me it still looks like it will be strong enough. But i guess will see, i'm just going too leave water in it for a week or two and see what happens. The mess can be cleaned up if a leak does occur. I just dont want to lose the fish, Thank you all for the response.

I googled Sauder TV Stand and saw all sorts from "No Way" to "It probably will hold a 90 gallon".

What model of stand is this?
