Eastern PA and NJ - Take my tanks please

Post by JD » Wed Dec 12, 2007 11:04 am

Hello,
JD here. I have been into loaches for probably 12 years and as with all good things, this too is coming to an end. I am done with fish tanks after some 2 decades in the hobby, it’s the end of an era. Therefore I am having an every thing must go sale, one of those going out of business deals:) Shari2 is going to take some stuff, but my primary item is the 90 gal tank. It’s all setup and planted and I would like to see someone take it as a whole system. This 90 was setup in 1997 and has been running ever since. That stand and hood are home made, and you may be able to see in the photos, they are furniture grade. The picture is a little to red, but you get the idea. There are 6 four foot tubes for lighting and a pressurized CO2 system. The plants are all live, and doing well, but I have been neglecting my duties lately and the overall arrangement is not as good looking as the last photos. The 90 is 48”*18”*24” tall and with the stand and hood the whole deal stands 57” tall. Because of the filters on the back, its 23 inches from the wall to the front of the tank. I have clowns, striata, nigroliniata, rostrate, Dario, sids, histionica and others.

Who ever buys this setup will also get a lifetime supply of miscellaneous stuff:) After collecting things for 20 years, there is quite a pile.
I have moved this tank once before without a death and can tell ya how to do it.

There are some photos here.

Let me know if you are interested, I am only polling local people since I want to sell it as a setup. I am also polling the loach board since I would prefer my loaches to go to and experienced loach keeper

I am north of Allentown PA. clownloachfan, MoonPye, Icewall42, chris1932, adamrf1126 are a few I thought may be interested, anyone else??

I really wish i could, the tank is beautiful. I will be moving out of my house in 2 years or so it would be alot to move. I also just bought another tank to setup, so that brings my total up to 3 tanks, i dont really have the room.

Clowns-6 is a group and more is never too many, providing the aquarium is large enough.

Incredible tank, JD. Folks, look at the striata at bottom centre for scale!

I wish I could help you out. Now what are you going to do with your loach book?

Wow thank you so much for thinking of me! It's killing me, I wish I could right now. Our baby is only 2 weeks old and I'm having a heck of a time just keeping up with the 3 tanks I have set up now.. oh, you have me drooling over the 90. I wish, I wish, I wish...

i would really love to, but i dont have the space for another 90 gallon tank, and with school and everything i dont want to make the commitment to another tank.

Especially since i will be going to college in 2 years, and i dont even know what will happen with my current fish since my parents are planning to sell the house when i leave.
Too bad i cant bring my 96 gallon tank into my dorm room
:(

I'm really sorry, and i wish you all the best in finding a great home for your tanks and your fish. If i were in a different situation, i would definitely take it but i cannot right now.

Rocco, Thanks:) If you move here in the next couple weeks let me know:)

Clownloachfan, I understand and thanks for letting me know.

Mark, Thankyou. I will read the book with a smile and gloat over my photo in “print” and at the fact that I know the people that made it.

Monica, Sure thing. I also figured that the new child would trump a new tank:)

Adam, I understand. I moved a 35 hex and a 10 from college, that was a pain. I move the 90, 35, 2 20s a 5 and a 10 here, that blew! Good luck in school.

Was it something we said? :D Seriously - I don't know you, and can't help you with the tank(s) from 4,000 miles away, but I get the sense that the loach community will be poorer.
Why does my aquarium always seem too small?

going out of the fish business? How? It's like leaving the Mob.

You might try craigslist. I drove through Allentown a few times but it's quite a drive for me.

JD, you can also downgrade to a low-tech tank... Lower the lights, lighten the fish load a little and get rid of the high demanding plants (if any)... You can literally go for a year without changing the water. All you have to do is feed the fishes once a day and leave the lights on a timer.
Check out this guy's tank for insights.

bslindgren Thanks you very much. I have been around here for a little while. More recently though, I am more and more absent.

mistergreen It is kind of like trying the leave the Mob:) I appreciate the ideas, but I am done. Shari has seen the tanks now, she can attest to the fact that I do very little with them anymore:) I think I rather enjoy creating them and despise maintaining them.

Jeff: This evening is the first time I have logged on in an embarrasingly long time. There was a time when if a day went by when I didn't log on, a search party would have been dispatched:)
Sorry to hear you are moving on, you are truly an accomplished aquarist, and have been both an inspiration and an excellent source of information over the years. I hope you will leave your site up, as there is a TON of good fishkeeping, aquatic plant, algae avoidance, etc info there which has helped THOUSANDS of other aquarists over the years.
I would like to take this oppurtunity to personally THANK YOU, and wish you well in whatver other hobbies/endeavours you pursue in the future.

JD do you still have this available? How much did you want? Is it just the plants that come with it? I have fish already so not looking for more fish just yet, just a bigger tank & stand. 90 would be perfect.

OOPS I just re-read your post and you want the fish to go with it too.. so I'm guessing now I really couldn't afford it. :-(
