i feed my loaches 2 or 3 times a day, smaller amounts and it makes them grow really fast...i purchased 2 tiny loaches like that in july, one died mysteriously and the other is about 2" long now. i like to get 2 or more at a time so they have a freind thier size, but i get a bit of variety in size.
i am super mom!...to the kids and the fish...lol

One thing I am lucky about here in Oz is there are always lots of clowns in the LFS and they are not particularly expensive. I think they all come from the same few suppliers weather they are wild caught or pond bread. So I am not sure what genetic diversity I would be getting anyway.
Gaining genetic diversity was what got me thinking about this in the first place.
Then I realized I probably wouldnt get lucky enough to breed clowns anyway. Then I noted the importance of not suddenly increasing the biological load on my filters.
I like the idea of gradually aquiring a large(ish) school from a variety of LFS. This would introduce a variety of size, age and markings. Also different batches may be more genetically healthy and robust. I just wanted to make sure all batches of clowns introduced would eventually be assimilated into the one school and play happily together.
