cant seem to calculate

I have a tank, that I have forgetten how big its volume is. I measured its sides and got 75cm, 55cm, 30 cm. which I calculated to be about 50L. Now when I see pics of peoples tanks that are say50 gallons, they dont seem much bigger than mines!!! did I do calculations wrong??

Your tank is actually about 123Liters.

I knew I was doing something stupid. so, now its 30 US gallon which sounds more realistic. Is the quoted gallons always US gallons, or do people quote UK gallons?

in UK galls i get your tank to hold just over 18 imperial gallons.

I live in the UK so I always use Imperial Gallons. I never use US gallons when posting.

There's no UK gallon as such. Imperial gallons are used in the UK and Commonwealth countries - the old Empire and all that stuff. The official unit of volume measurement in the UK is the litre. Unless it's beer sold in a pub, in which case it's pints. Imperial pints of course. Not US pints. Buy beer in a supermarket though and it's in litres.

is a quart equal to a pint? my bucket says they are the same - 1/4 gallon (us)

A quart in Imperial measure is 2 pints.

A quart is two pints and therefore one quarter of a UK gallon. A UK gallon is 4.546 litres and a US gallon is 3.785 litres, making a US gallon only 5/6 of a UK one.

Long time since I knew any French, but I'd guess that "1 pt" on the French side doesn't mean 1 pint but the French equivalent of one quarter since it's marking the 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4 points for each gallon.

US and Imperial gallons are commonly divided into half, quarter (quart) and eighths (pints).
The names are the same, but the volumes are different.
As stated above the US gallon is about 80% of the Imperial gallon.

The tank listed above is pretty close to 123 liters (were your measurements to the outside? The water is on the inside)
This is equal to about 32 American gallons
This is equal to about 25 Imperial gallons.
