if you lads remember, the odessa barb come on the scene in a fish market in moscow, at the time this fish was suspected to be a cross between two sp of barb.
but they gave the name "odessa", now we know that this fish is found in the wild.
i sort of agree with andre if they give these mutants names, we can at least help other people just kicking of in the hobby and tell them it's a hybrid.
in the end there's always going to be some that will buy them hybrid or no just to make the tank look pretty.

Even if they do get a latin name of their own we will still get the age old problem of the muttitude of common names that are geared to sell the fish and every shop selling it under a different name :x

Good point.

Is it just me? Do their bodies seem shaped oddly? Like swollen in the belly area, but not like being gravid. Or something.

Just how does one go about tattooing a fish in the first place?

Kind of funny that you mentioned this, Mark- I noticed this article listed at Practical Fishkeeping just today while having a look at your article about your success with the kubs

I think we've had discussions with/about this tinkerer before?

Spotted that same article today....I wonder if there is a way to convince him to stop...besides just not buying the fish he "creates."

That's just how I feel, Nancy.

Sad, and sorry for the little crossbreeds. It isn't their fault, but this is, in my opinion, abominable
