Vanmanenia sp. fry (pics)

I had a surprise in my river tank when I got home from four weeks holiday. My Vanmanenia sp. (possibly got an ID here) had spawned and I found two small fry. I have only Sewellia, Gastromyzon and Sinogastromyzon species in the tank so looking at the fry's fins, there's no question they're Vanmanenía. There are only two of them but they're already 2 cm (TL) so I think they'll make it.

The adults have been kind of dancing in pairs, but I can't tell if it's got anything to do with spawning, they might be just fighting. Once I saw one couple acting differently, they danced vertically (it's not easy, I've got quite a current in the tank) and were twisted around each other.

congratulations, it's always great to see fry in the tank, from what you said the twisting in the current sounds like they were spawning at that time.

The fry look quite a bit like Liniparhomaloptera disparis fry.
Here is a poor quality pic of a 1.25cm fry that came from some spawnings I had a few years ago.
The adults look quite similar to L. disparis, too.

Jim: surely they're very similar to your fish. I'm not an expert, but after comparing my fish to pictures of Vanmanenia cf. pingchowensis and Liniparhomaloptera disparis I still think they look more like Vanmanenia.

I also think your fish are Vanmanenia cf. pingchowensis . I just wanted to show you how similar the fish are to Liniparhomaloptera disparis .
I have had numerous Liniparhomaloptera disparis over the years (only have one now) but have been hoping to find one of the Vanmanenia species. Martin has had both and has told me that the Vanmanenia are a more attractive fish. I like the yellow color on yours.

Yes, the yellow in their fins is quite pretty. I'm trying to get my hands on more of these. One of the employees at my LFS (where I found the fish) has two in her own tank and she is willing to sell them to me after hearing that mine have spawned.
