It's been a while.. I'm still looking for Homaloptera Orthogoniata.

Saw some at a supplier out of Singapore but they were actually Tweedie Loaches..

I know I don't have to post a picture here cause we're all loach nuts here. Anyone seen this loach for sale?

I haven't seen or herd of anyone who keeps Homaloptera tweediei.

I wonder if they are becoming available now.

If you do decide to purchase a few then i would advise you to look at their pectoral fins. The Homaloptera tweediei's pectoral fins do not overlap its pelvic fins. And the very similar looking Homaloptera smithi does have the overlapping fins.

I've had one that came in with smithi. Very similar to smithi in behaviour.

Saw some today in my local Big Als who NEVER gets these sort of fish in.
They were labelled as "Saddled Hillstream Loach", which is of course, one of the "trade" names for Homaloptera orthogoniata.

The saddles on the back were definitely more defined than my H. smithi.

Big Al's? What is that? A local chain or something? I've been looking for this loach for months and I'd really be willing to drive to Toronto if you saw them there.. Yes, I'm that interested!

I'm looking to purchase a group of five for an established tank that has been built specifically to replicate the Hillstream environment (They probably don't have the 1" PCV pipes running through the subsrate in nature, but hey, "What the He**).. This tank has only six mixed Gastro type loaches (Sold as "devil fish".. Poor, ignorant LFS owner.. lol) and one common pleco to keep the bacterial filtration established.

True Homaloptera Orthogoniata are my first choice, but I'd take Homaloptera Confuzona or Homaloptera Parclitella if anyone could ever locate them..

I have gone into "embargo mode".. No more fish of any type until I find these loaches! Once I get them, then I can start fleshing out the rest of the community, perhaps with those tweediei..

Fishhead. We all would love to find and keep the 'True saddle-back' Loaches. Unfortunately, they are not around much.

http://www.bigalscanada.com/ These fish are at the Kennedy Road, Scarborough location. I was truly suprised to see them because normally the only BA's around here that have Hillstreams are the Steeles Road and the Pickering branches.

Kennedy Road is currently being remodelled and is a bit of a mess right now. The tank volume is down to less than half the norm.

The Homaloptera tweedei were CDN$8.99 each by the way, which is a bit on the high side for fish of this type, but not outrageous.

I used to own 12 H. orthogoniata. They're just fantastic fish, but delicate to acclimatize to aquarium conditions. However, once settled in they will live for quite a while. This one pictured was my last and I had it for around 4 years.








Here's a pic of when I first got my H. smithi. You'll note there's big differences in their markings......



I think what I saw yesterday were different, so I'm assuming they are H. tweedei. Absolutely, definitely not H.zollingeri though.
