I had been thinking that as the two larger ones are very rotund and actually when laying on the bottom only the stomach hits the sand. The third Yo Yo is much slimmer and can place his entire body on the sand. The two are about 1/2 inch larger than the third one and about a 1/3 more in body mass.

I don't think this would be the most reliable method of sexing loaches. None of my yoyos have reddish mouth parts, but all of my striatas do. Body shape seems to be a better indicator of gender.
Thank you! This is my first visit to this forum and you've already answered the question I came to ask!
I have two Botia almorhae that I bought about a year ago. The smaller of the two always got chased around the tank by the larger one but over time the smaller one became larger, but the chasing continued the same. Then in the space of about two weeks her belly became enormous. I wondered if there might be some breeding going on but as she has remained this size for a good three/four months I started to worry that she had a parasite or something. Looks like females just get big bellies!
The lady is 4 1/2 inches and the male is 4in. I'll post some pics up in a little while.
I actually didn't like these fish much when I bought them but I've grown to absolutely love them. I also have 4 kuhli loaches, though I'm yet to figure out which of the 4 or so species often labelled as 'kuhli' they actually are.
My two females Yo Yos constantly chase each other around the tank. It's part of their daily routine. I'm amazed at the speed and the fact that they can actually weave in and out of places without hitting anything. Two laps around the tank and into the hidey hole. Going as fast as they can.
That's her spot and lord help anyone who wants to "borrow it". It's amazing how fast they can chase each other around the tank.
Another female stays under an inverted bridge along with a clown loach.
The male goes inside the corner cave and uses the upper shelf at night. Sometimes the black kuhlis end up in the corner cave with him but not that often.
It's funny... I am used to her sleeping on her side all the time, but the darios do tend to give me a start doing it every now and then. I see a tail at a wrong angle sticking out of his cave.
