8 rays for me as well, thats counting all the dorsal i'm not sure if they leave the first one out as it always states branched rays.

I was confused by the diffenerence on the nos of the markings as well.
Eventually, this lovely species is finally identified as Protomyzon pachychilus, a rare species from Guangxi Province in China. However, there's not much info about them, here's a simple description:

You get a better understanding seeing these larger fish , from an ariel position 8)

Very nice looking fish. They look much nicer than the other Erromyzon (formerly Protomyzon) species I have seen or kept.
I wonder how much the pattern changes as they mature.

Common name is Panda Loach, certainly is a stunning looking fish :)
