Loach ID verification

Hey everybody,

I was wondering if you pros out there could verify if this guy is a Botia Rostrata. I got him about 4 years ago with the Kubatai(?) in the first photo.

Rostrata or histrionica, you say you got it 4 years ago has its pattern changed a lot in that time?

His pattern hasn't changed much at all. I was looking at some older pics of him, and he looks pretty much the same, pattern wise.

I'd say Rostrata myself.

Personally I'd say it was a Kubotai, for me the caudal and dorsal markings are the same as the other fish in the pic ! Kubotai are quite variable in pattern and colour shades .

I wouldn't consider myself an expert but for what it's worth I also think they're both Kubotai. I don't think of my Kubotais swimming the way that one is in the top picture but maybe they do it so fast I don't notice the motion. The bottom picture sure looks like a Kubotai to me.

I was kind of leaning towards rostrata. Maybe he is a kubotai. I thought Kubotais had a horizontal stripe. I guess with the variation in color between the two, and he's a little bit bigger than his kubotai buddy, I thought he might be different species.

here's akub, pic was taken by Kamphol, i think it looks pretty similar to yours.

did you by all the kubs from the same tank at the shop and at the same time?.

I did buy them together, from the same tank. I was thinking he might have been mixed in by accident. But after looking at the photo Mick posted, I think he is a kub. The two we have just look a lot different to me. Could they be different sexes?
