Oh, ye of little faith... We all thought the damn loach book, edited by several regular posters on this site, was a fantasy. Not so!

At LONG last, we have received news that the book is to be released by TFH Publications in the fall of 2007. I know that means more waiting, but we editors have been waiting - what? 2 years for news? A titanic sense of relief!

Crack the preliminary champagne, and join us in one more year of agonizing wait for the best, most authoritative and complete book on loaches the world has ever seen. Hundreds of photos, 75 species described, natural history, care tips, behaviour notes, feeding notes, and a comprehensive guide to setting up tanks for Botias, brook loaches, and hillstream loaches!

And to the former editor of TFH magazine, who handled our book in the initial stages - you sleep with one eye open, or you will find yourself cursed with suborbital spine pricks!

We're planning to pose a clown loach as Mona Lisa on the cover... Not! No kid wizards, either. Just pure loach lore.

its about time too. it sounds like you have had a very long wait with the publishers. i will have a beer for all you involved, and pretend its champagne :P

Any news on whether or not they'd be willing to allow updates on the hillstream section? Would be a good thing...

What about proposing a "Loaches for Dummies" or "Idiots guide to Loaches" or even a slightly less commercial title? I believe Loaches are going to be the popular fish of the 21st Century. They are too cool to be ignored!

I did just that earlier on :wink: - hopefully Martin may have access to the Internet later tonight (although by the time he left our house after that last cup of tea, it might be more like tomorrow morning!!!). He treated me and Helen to some readings from the book - the introduction, the clown loach section, and part of the hillstream section. It's just fantastic, and I can't wait to hold a copy of this book in my hands. :D
