Powerhead sponge?

I have an Aqua clear 70 powerhead ready to go into my new setup however I have read that smaller fish can be sucked into powerhead's vacuum so it's best to cover it with a sponge.

My question is, is there a special made sponge made to fit this purpose? If not what sponge can I use safely with the powerhead and in my aquarium? What solutions have you guys come up with?

Aquaclear makes an attachment that houses ready-made inserts, fits on the bottom. You can easily adapt pvc/cpvc pipe to the bottom also, drill full of holes, and cover it with a sponge. There are various sponges available for this and some just use aquaclear filter sponges. I've ordered prefilter sponges online, bought them in fish shops and Home depot made for pool filters.

Its called a quick filter. I had one in my tank and would like to put it back but I had different problem. I HAD one of those hist/yoyo loaches in the tank. He swam in the outlet and got gutted by the motor. I really wanted to see how he would look all grow up. I need to figure out how to keep loaches from swimming up stream into the outlet again. I like having the extra current but I dont want to loss another loach. I know loaches are river fish but I never thought one could swim into a Aqua clear 70 PH. I didnt even have a filter pad in the quick filter. The flow was not restickted in anyway. That shocked me to say the least.

HST, I tied a piece of plastic netting, like onions come in, over the outlet to keep nosy histies out.

Thanks for the advice guys. I used a piece of fabric mesh to cover the intake.
