Shistura pridii
A retailer here in Sweden just got a shipment of Shistura pridii and from what I read in the species index they have a extremely limited distribution in the wild.
I emailed them and asked if they had this information, and I got this reply:
Thanks for your mail. The fish is not protected or prohibited. It is still quite common in the hillstreams of Myanmar and Laos but is rare because it is very hard to reach
The collection grounds. There are no roads and the collector must trek many hours to get this fish.
Hope info helps.
Thank you!

The species index of Shistura pridii was last modified Jul 08, 2007. Any news since then?

It was thought that they were extremely rare but indications are that what you have been told seems to be correct and that it is mainly an issue of getting to them to catch them.
I have been assured by a couple of people now that they can be seen and caught in good size quantities when the fishing grounds can be reached.
I think this is also confirmed by the amount of pridii that have been exported recently and also their price, when they first arrived here a couple of years ago they were in excess of £25 each in places but now they can be found for less than £10 each.

I think it would be worth erring on the side of caution with an update on that. (On that note, I want some!)malfunkshun wrote:Thanks
How about updating the species index on Shistura pridii now?
