Hi, I posted on here on 5th August when my yoy loach became very bloated. This still hasn't got any better. It looks like a gravid loach but recently has started to "float/roll onto its side" so I'm thinking its more like an internal infection.
We go away for nearly 2 weeks as of Saturday morning and dont want to fill the tank wth chemicals then leave it.... any suggestions as to how we could solve this?
Would a big water change help do you think?

Depends on what you mean by 'big'. Too big a change that messes with the water chemistry in a major way can cause problems in and of itself. Perhaps 30-40% would be good. More than that I'd not suggest unless there is a problem with the water quality that would necessitate such a measure.
If she's just laying around because she's uncomfortable...well, in the last couple of months of pregnancy, that's rather a given
If the rolling onto her side seems to be an illness rather than just discomfort she may be feeling the effects of being egg bound. Full of eggs with no spawning. If she has quit eating, I would worry. In my search for answers I came upon no solution to saving an egg bound fish other than spawning. If she has a blockage you could look into an epsom salt treatment, but I'd wait till you get back and can look into it in more detail than I can give here. Unfortunately, if her behavior is indicative of a blockage or parasite the prognosis is not the greatest. do you have someone who can keep an eye on the tank in case she passes? You wouldn't want her in there for 2 weeks if she dies...
How to alleviate her egg laden status is beyond me. I have done some investigating myself, having had a gravid yo yo before, and nothing I tried could induce spawning. However, on an encouraging note, she seemed to get on just fine being full of eggs.
In any case, I doubt there is anything you should try and then leave for 2 weeks
Hoping she's just roly-poly and not really ill.

Thanks for that shari2- we havent actually seen her eat but never do really, she tends to do it when we're not watching!
All other behaviour is ok apart from the fact she is "awake" much more as she cant fit into her usual hiding place. We've made her aother under a slate but she doesnt like it much and tends to be out and about during the daytime.
We have a friend staying here who doesnt know anythign about fish, but he could take her out if something happens (i so hope not though). What do you think- should we continue to feed? If it is bacterial will it make it worse??
We will do a 40% water change, and clean the gravel too, just to tide things over until we get back then hopefully things will have calmed down (?!)
Many thanks, Jenni

If she Floats/roll on the side, could be a sign of swim bladder problems too. Anti biotic for internal you might consider. Although it may appear fat, it will still need to eat if it does. Probably little amount of food.
120 gallon planted aquaponic tank with 10 clown loachs, first one since 1994, 1 modesta and 3 striadas.
Hi again, were just about to do a 40% water change and clean the filter sponges too.
Should we vac the gravel thouroughly too or will that do harm? Or should we just do the top layer?
He's not looking good today-worse than ever. We put courguette in sometimes and feed flake, live and frozen food too.
I wouldnt want to medicate before we go away as our friend whos staying doesnt know anything about fish and it might make matters worse...thanks guys
