I was working about 100 miles northwest of my home today and checked out Turkey Run State Park near Marshall, Indiana. Its one of my favorite places. If you want to see the park, you have to either hike or rent a canoe on Sugar Creek. I didn't have much time, but managed to get a few pics.

Sugar Creek is a popular canoe and smallmouth bass stream.

A few years ago I caught and released a 2lb smallmouth bass in front the the large rock in the middle of the picture.



Off the creek valley are deep gorges eroded in the sandstone.
The green you see is mostly ferns, moss, Eastern hemlock and Canada yew

Its a nice creek to canoe. I haven't done it in years, though. There are crowds during the summer, particularly weekends.
People often put in at its sister park, Shades State Park, which is about 14 miles upstream and has similar, if not more rugged, topography.
It makes for a great, scenic float with some stretches of fast water.
Today, with the great weather, nice foliage and few canoes (I only saw one) would have been a nice time do take a little canoe trip.

Bald cypress trees growing in what's left of the old Wabash and Erie canal
north of Delphi. These trees are native to the state, but are about 150 miles or so north of the northern edge of their range along the lower Wabash. They were planted some years ago by Purdue University which owns the property. They are one of the few deciduous conifers.

These are probably the last for me, since we had peak colors a little earlier in the week. The change from last Monday to today was amazing.
Rain and winds yesterday took a few leaves off, but its still pretty.
These are from Brown County State Park, where I started this thread.

The park roads are gorgeous.

Fantastic stuff guys! We're off out today to capture the last of the peak before too many leaves come down. It's sunny so I should be able to get some bright shots. We've had some wind in the past few days and many leaves are down in the city. We had rain and cars are spattered in leaf debris with lots up in the wheel arches.

I couldn't resist going back to the park for one more look at the leaves.
The weather was much better today, but the crowds were horrible. Way too many folks for my taste, so I didn't stay long.

Our trip today was truncated when the car decided to overheat Been planning to get it into the shop for a replacement heater-core....calling the shop tomorrow.

So no foliage pics. I'm sure by next weekend half the leaves will be down.
