Beautiful markings indeed :D
I have a small male (4cm) that also has a very odd dotted pattern especially on and around his head (will post some pics when i have a connection at home again)

About the size, i have seen some very big S. lineolata at "de Rifwachter" (a dutch fish/aquarium store in Hilversum NL)
males measuring around 7-8 cm and females just a bit smaller.
Myself i own a 6.3 cm female and Francois (another member here) owns a male and female of about the same size

By the way, I've found another one who have similar markings as our one. It's in the same shop as we bought Alien, and is a little smaller. If we'd have more room he'd be ours by now.

This is my odd patterned male, don,t mind his fins as they were torn to shreds when this pic was taken about 2 months ago
his tail is already starting to regrow after it was almost completely gone 2 weeks after this pic was taken.
His dorsal and pectoral fins still look shoddy but in general he's quite healthy
and a good competitor for food among the bigger hillies

Nice markings! How did he lose his fins?

I think in fights with other hillies but i,m not too sure

I can't imagine losing fins in fights with other hillstreams. They just don't have the equipment to do that kind of damage.
Maybe some other fish caused this.

That's what I thought as well

What else besides other hillstreams do you have in there?

If it was another source it must have been the lobster (which is gone by now)
or the Chaetostoma Sp.2 .The only other thing besides hillies are a colony of cherry shrimp :P

working my pictures I found some older ones with wild born lineolatas
unfortunately I haven't taken many of the next generations and none of the adults (sold before adult age)

regarding this pattern (saigon aquarium/loaches/cover of the revision by J.freyhof) the range is even very very wide
