Thank you all for your nice comments! :D

She needs to meet mamaschild's Fat Albert. I think he's close. :)
Yes, her 'boyfriend' is called Stripes. Here's a picture of them both (alongside a standard 30cm/12" ruler):

As you might have guessed by now, we didn't have Marge and Stripes from young, we re-homed them about a year ago. Thanks to a tip-off from Mary who sometimes posts on here, we went and rescued the pair of them from a shop who had in turn re-homed them from a customer who's tank they had outgrown. When we went and found them, the poor things were on their own in a 5ft tank with one bit of bogwood to hide behind - needless to say they were quite stressed out. We have a 1000 litre aquarium at home, with over 40 Clown loaches. It took Marge and Stripes a little time to adjust to their new surroundings (it was 7 weeks before Marge came out and fed) but these days, they are both confident fish that mix well with all the others, and Marge makes it clear that she is boss of the tank! The other Clowns in the tank are a mixture of ones that I've had for 14 years, ones we rescued from customers who have bought them in to our shop, and others were picked for their strange markings.
topline wrote:I've admired your clowns for ages. Just a question if you dont mind... you say the larger clowns "come out"... What sort of hiding places do you provide for clowns of this size?
Thanks Brian! :D Their aquarium is decorated with a huge amount of extra-large bogwood pieces (which proved difficult to source), that we've piled up to create cave-like structures. There are also a few bits of slate that we've placed upright and leaned against the back of the tank. All this decor creates a lot of dark areas where they like to hide for most of the day.
diesel wrote:a clown needs te be 7 inches (17 centimetres) before they turn sexually mature they say.
If its true???
kimby wrote:Do you think there's anything to the thought that the reason no-one gets clown spawns is becuase they need to be full grown?
Not a lot is known about the breeding habits of Clown loaches, but yes, it is thought that only the larger, more mature specimens are the ones that breed. In their native Indonesia, specimens over a certain size are not allowed to be exported, so as to safeguard the breeding populations.

I'm glad you all enjoyed looking through the photographs,

I tried watermelon once...

One tiger barb went nuts on it eating as much as he could.

One yoyo sniffed at it.

No other fish touched it.

Clown loaches were not interested... even the rest of the barbs didn't like it. I've got a single watermelon-loving barb and thats it I guess. lol

Thanks, palaeodave! :D

The tank is 7ft x 27" (wide) x 28" (high). We say it's about 1000 litres, but there's actually slightly more volume than that, due to the 3 Eheim external filters underneath - two of them are the big Professionel 3's which hold approx 25 litres each.

Watermelon, huh....that's something I almost always have in the house in summer. Guess what mine get to try tonight :D

GORGEOUS, as always Emma. I love the last pic. Marge is such a beauty. I think she an Albert would make a GREAT pair, as Kimby said ;)

He's such a flirt, he wanted to send Marge a Kiss ;)

I tried my almorhae's on it and they loved it! So many good pictures but I've forced myself to limit this post to four:

Three of the five there having a munch. The adult chases the smaller ones away in minute!

So I put another piece in for the little'ns.

Hope you like them :D
