Gastromyzon viriosus

Bad news. One of my viriosus died. I think I'm just down to one and a cheni. Picked up some of the novo tabs today and have tried it out on my 300ltr Botia tank. Highly entertaining! Will try it out on the hillstream tank in the week (it's at work).

I haven't had a huge amount of luck with hillstream loaches. Some were definitely poor stock but I've lost a few that I shouldn't have. There's loads of algae in the tank, good flow and filtration and the temperature sits around 24C (although it went up to 28 in the summer before we moved it to work, which is climate controlled). I thought the high summer temperature could have been responsible for a few of them dying but we've lost a couple more recently and I think they maybe aren't getting enough food. If I don't have success with these novo tabs, I'll probably not get any more hillies. May try Homaloptera if I can find any decent stock, though.

We got at least one of these the other week. Maybe two. The one is picture perfect as an example of the viriosus. It's very animated, moving about a lot, healthy and perky in the Q tank for these two weeks.

The other one looks a lot like it in pattern, but it is less yellow (no yellow at all really), and the tail is red instead of yellow. It's also less energetic.

Wow I have never seen so many G. viriosus, amazing picture!!

It seems that the situation has changed a bit, in Germany appear sporadically also of dedicated deliveries...
