Stiphodon genus of the Goby

The sale name as Stiphodon.sp "Gold Spot" is sometimes used.
A sale name of fish is unreliable as plaalye says.
The sale name is used to both of them of the "Rainbow-color"and"Orange-fin(Spotted Head)" introduced in this thread.
Pictures of Stiphodon with the sale name as "Gold spot" are indicated below.

I took a video of matching breeding behavior of Stiphodon percnopterygionus recently.

A male makes the color of the body flashy and is inviting a female.
It's possible to see a male sometimes making a jaw vibrate.
A male probably seems to be issuing sound in the water.

Two body colors turn red.
A male of a short dorsal fin is the male introduced at the top.

A few months ago I bought 3 Stiphodon sp. ''Rainbow'' to my 180l planted aquarium and I'm so amazed with their beauty and behaviour, I want to turn my tank into Stiphodon and Rhinogobius' kingdom

Oddesey, do you keep more than one species of Stiphodon in one tank? What is the ratio of males - females? How often do you do the water change?
And finally, does enyone keep Stiphodons with Rhionogobiuses?

Hello everyone.
I saw that my rhinogobius attacked my Stiphodon and sicyopterus .
I decided to remove rhinogobius of the tank and put it in another tank.

I found a picture that shows that rhinogobius are predator of stiphodon.

In this case I'll not add Rhinogobius. Do know what fish can live with Stiphodons in peace?

first possibility

You just recreate a biotope ( documenting fishbase and avoiding predators).

or request information on endemic fish that live with Stiphodon, the best would be asked odyssey or taragoby .


second possibility

you create an aquarium with plenty of shelter and a lot of plants.
If you put a lot of good hiding place and you can put as many fish completely different odyssey.

Namely, to put the goldfish odyssey to improve production of algae.
odyssey has also loaches not too aggressive.

Attention most of the loaches likes to have a territory and live in groups.

We also put some shrimp but the shrimp eat the algae.

I maintain that fish to be sure my fish have a maximum of foods.

That way no concurence food with shrimp.

It's very hard question... I was thinking about recreating the biotop, but also I want to add as much hiding places as possible.
I don't want to put goldfish in the tank as I found them very messy. But if I'll struglle with growing algae, I'll use gold fish's ''special abilities''

What about having algae growing in glass jars? I'm growing Vanda orchids in glass vases, I always keep 2-3cm of water at the bottom of the vases. I've noticed that algae grow there very well (sometimes to well)...

I found a idea to make the brown algae.
I put a nest on the odds of the aquarium or I have less light.
I put cotton (ouate jbl) wool on the inside and above an filter aquaball that recreates a rejection (water fall).

the idea and recreates a water fall or brown algae reproduce.
So occasionally I see them coming on the net to feed on algae.

The male female ratios of sold Stiphodon are different by a species.
But only my feeling, the impression is as follows.
S.percnopterygionus is 1:1
S.atropurpureus is 1:1
Blue-moon is 1:1
Rainbow-color is 20:1
Orange-fin is 20:1
I do not know why there is a difference in the number of males and females.

The frequency of the water change for twice a month.
I change a one-third of the gross quantity every time.
The quantity is approximately 20 liters.

For my impression, most Rhinogobius is violent-tempered.

Stiphodon is a part of the a variety of fish species in my water tank.

20:1??? That must an awful lot of females for just one male! The problem is, I think that all three of mine Stiphodons ''Rainbow-color'' are males...

I agree with Tyrano34 Can you tell us which other species have you seen living close to Stiphodons in their natural habitat?

normal that you can not find a female.

The wholesaler purchases all the time even goby.

they buy the red goby thinking he'll have males and females in the command.


Wholesalers do not buy the black gobi.

Yeah that's quite stupid... So the sellers think, that red ones are males and females and the black-striped ones are different species...
I'll have t ask my local aquatic store about the ''striped species of Stiphodon''
