Botia Loaches and Cichlids

Post by Hoary » Thu Dec 01, 2011 6:10 pm

I heard these are compatible...is this true? I have a small electric yellow and two larger blood parrots. The electric yellow is territorial.

As you can see I keep a Jack Dempsey with my Clown Loaches. He has a powerful bite, but gets on great with the Clown Loaches and is very gentle with them. He will occasionally push them out of his space like a bulldozer, but they don't mind this at all.

I sometimes feel sorry for him as the Clown Loaches do not respect conventional Cichlid customs and etiquette such as threat displays etc. and just charge into his space and bump into him without so much as a bye-your-leave, if you know what I mean. He is remarkably tolerant.

I'd say they are brilliant together.

I would be just as happy with my Clown Loaches on their own, though, and might have gone this way if I'd realised how special they are.

The electric yellow is a Malawi making it incompatible. The south American cichlids are suitable. But it also depends on temperament.
