Tankmates - 125 with clown loaches

Post by Arden »

I have a just set up a 125

I currently have

3 clown loches
7 hatchetfish
2 veiled angelfish
1 rainbowshark
3 neon tertras
1 common pleco

I am adding two more clowns for a total of five

What I'm looking for is advice on a nice midlevel schooling group... something that will make the tank look less "empty" in the middle.. any suggestions?

I highly recommend rainbowfish (Melanotaenia splendida in my case). I have a group of 6 of them in with my clowns. They work well as dithers, but also have interesting and fun personalities of their own. They don't get too big, usually around 4 inches, and they will generally leave all the other fish alone if there are enough of them in the tank.
Mine actually school with my 6 white-skirt tetras, which are significantly smaller than the rainbows.

Melanotaenia splendida is the species name. The store sold them to me as "Australian Rainbowfish", which is technically correct but not very specific.

Here's a link for more info about them:
