Botia kubotai reproducing in planted tank
Hi ,
I had a very pleasnt surprise yesterday, noticed a 7 mm 'baby' kubotai in my 50 gallon tank. I had set up the tank in May, planted mainly Wisteria, Java ferns, couple of spiral Vals and Crypts together with a pair of Kubotai,2 Clowns, 2 Blue botias, 2 Hillstream, 2 Sewellia lineolata, 2 Bandit corys, 2 Julii, 2 Sterbai and 2 Otos.
I hope it will survive as I am going to leave in the tank togather with the above fishes. I feed these with mixture of sinking tablets, flakes and slow sinking pellets.
Does any one have any experience with these tiny kubotais.
Thanks.
The bottom picture are of the parents.

Re: Botia kubotai reproducing in planted tank
hello there congrats on the fish breeding but I would be heavily inclined to say that the fry are actually fry from one of your hillstream Loaches..
Do you happen to know the ID of your other Hillstreams as they are either the parents or the Sewellia are.. More photos will definitely help.
Great if it does turn out to be the Botia who have spawned though and I look forward to more updates and photos.

So many species of fish yet so little time, space and money to keep them all...

Many thanks, the birth was by chance, totally unexpected. I am trying to get more photos, it is rather difficult as it only appears fleetingly-hopefully over the next few days. Rather worried the much larger Blue botias and Gouramis may feed on it as it is really tiny.
It looks very different from the pics of Sewellia fry I have seen. The hillstream loaches I have are a pair of Sewellia lineolata and another pair of Beaufortia kwechowensis. Will try to upload photos of these.

They look like sewellia fry to me. Better pics may confirm.
Re: Botia kubotai reproducing in planted tank
You are absolutely right, better pics over the next couple of weeks will help. thanks.

I also think they are sewellia fry.
5ft long rocky hillstream tank - Sewellia lineolata and spotted... and lots (and lots) of spotted fry
8ft Clown loach tank: 30+ clown loaches, 10+ Yoyos.
6ft tank for 16x botia kubotai, 13x Striata, 6x Sidthimunki - I need more sids
