Pseudogastromyzon fasciatus profile**x
*work in progress*
Scientific Name: Pseudogastromyzon fasciatus (Sauvage 1878)
Common name: Zebra Hillstream loach, Chinese Hillstream loach
Synonyms: Psilorhynchus fasciatus, Pseudogastromyzon fasciatus jiulongjiangensis .
Distribution: China.
Sexual Dimorphism: Males have more prominent nasal tubercules, and a more slender build.
Maximum size: 3 inches
Similar to: Similar to other Pseudogastromyzon species but generally larger with prominant body stripes.
Care: Inhabit fast flowing streams over boulders. Aquarium must duplicate these conditions as fish have very high oxygen requirements. See: http://www.loaches.com/hillstream_loaches.html for more detailed explanation.
With all sucker-type Hillstream species, care is broadly the same. All need excellent water-flow and aeration, numerous rocky hiding places and smooth pebbles and boulders to graze over. Lighting should be bright to encourage algal growth in the aquarium. Plants are not necessary as the fish do not normally encounter them in the wild, but they will help with water-quality. Suitable plants for high-flow environments are Anubias and Microsoreum. These will grow on rockwork or driftwood.
Feeding: Good quality flake, sinking pellets, algae wafers, thawed frozen Bloodworm, Mysis Shrimp, blanched Spinach, Kale, natural algae an advantage.
Water parameters: pH:7.0-8.0. Hardness: Medium. Max dh:
Temperature: 68ºF to 75ºF(20-23.8°C)
Breeding: There are reports that this fish has been bred in the aquarium.
Notes: Similar to Pseudogastromyzon cheni in behavior. This fish tends to command respect from most other hillstream primarily due to its larger size. The large clear yellow dorsal fin is raised during territorial disputes.
This species tends to dig in the gravel searching for food, more than most hillstream species. Pseudogastromyzon fascitatus is not a common import but may show up in pure shipments or as a contaminant with other Chinese hillstream loaches.

Hi Jim,
I put the bold and italic codes in for your description headings. I hope you don't mind.
If you go back and read the 'BLANK FORMS instructions' I've made some edits there to how to use the coded forms so you don't have to worry about doing it. Just copy/paste and fill in with your information.

Just so we're all on the same page, I am hoping that we can jump in an add stuff or correct spelling as we see it. I am under the assumption that the original author's name will not be shown for the end text. It's a group thing, yeah?
I cannot imagine that we would disagree on very many points at all, and I'd prefer to have a misspelled word in a description I generated to be corrected.
And sorry I haven't been more involved in this recently. Other things afoot in my life at the moment.

Your vantage point determines what you can see.

This is exactly the whole reason that I wanted this sort of media to do this job. I noted that Jim had put "None" for synonyms for instance.
If you input the name in Google and go to the Fishbase hit Jim, you can click on Synonyms (somewhere down the page) and get a list. I just copy/pasted them over.
Any omission, typo, whatever can be picked up and modified quickly and easily. I've even put a space in where text started right up against the colon after a section title. Picky, but it all helps the visuals.
I'm impressed also with the number of views we're getting on this work. It validates doing it in this way because people can see what's going on, access the current info, and see we're making real changes for the future of this site.
IMO, we don't necessarily have to keep each other updated on the change we made either. Unlike The Book, we don't need to keep tight control of the text to know we're working with the latest version. Here you KNOW you're working with the latest version.
Martin.
