They would not consider the creatures that they enjoy caring for as being described in the manner that you have. Ok, so you don't like them. It doesn't mean that you should impose your very shallow opinions onto everyone else, particularly someone who is relatively new to the hobby and has taken time to ask advice on here.
Also, you want to get your facts straight before talking about some of the fish you have mentioned to USFMarine, not all of the fish you have talked about are really suitable for his set-up.

For a man with your current workload and future plans I'd stick with the 55 for now. It's a nice tank with lots of possibilities. Another possibly interesting choice for dithers are these:

There's hundreds of fish that would work with your current and water parameters. Take back the angel to a local shop for store credit. Most stores are more than happy to take in larger fish (except common plecos!) for those regular clients with large tanks. Stores sell full grown blacks in good condition for $25+. You should get about half of what they sell it for. Use it for food, or dechlorinator, or whatever. Take your time and look around a bit and you'll find something that YOU like and would enjoy having in your tank. Personally, I had a school of the ubiquitous cardinal tetras that actually looked quite nice schooling around in my 55. You do need at least a dozen though, for the full effect.

I don't know that any of the fish I suggested are especially unsuitable although a couple are certainly less so than others but they are all within the umbrella of reason I think. Which ones don't work for you? Cherry barbs? I really don't know which ones are inappropriate. CERTAINLY the larger peaceful cichlids would not be appropriate choices unless if they fish were all in a huge tank. I can still understand you not liking that idea. I respect that you are a loach purist. But the fish are all extremely peaceful, including the female firemouth. None of the fish get larger than the clowns and none of the fish would bother or harass them and none of the fish would have real problems with the current, including the cherry barbs which would still just be within reason...


To say that me saying tetras have the personality of a doorknob is inappropriate, to me, is crossing a line in terms of trying to control what people say on the boards.

The store I used to work at tells people that tetras and barbs have personalities like doorknobs. Its true. They're adorable but not intelligent or complexly behavioured. Im not insulting anyone.

For you to jump on me for saying that some fishes aren't intelligent is just rediculous, I feel you jump down my throat often lately... I don't know when to take it seriously some times Im sorry to say which is sad because you obviously know a tonne more than me... I just don't like the way you show it be coming across to me like Im some kind of low class blob who never says the right thing... Im sure you don't mean to but I experience it as such...

I really like my corys... but I wouldn't lie to myself and say they're intelligent. They operate completely on instinct. I can say an animal is unintelligent and still adore it...

If you knew me, which you don't, and therefore can't possibly formulate a logical or well based opinion about me, you would know Im not shallow nor are my comments. Its an opinion, just like you're entitled to yours, and its an accepted opinion where I come from. Theres nowhere I know of where calling someone shallow or saying they have shallow opinions is acceptable.

Quite a lot worse than me saying tetras have doorknob personalities... which is acceptable on my end of the pond. Much like if I said 'the trunk of the car' on yours you'd look at me like I was speaking German.

If you have diffculty in being polite then you shouldn't be frequenting forums such as Loaches Online, where we are trying to promote good relationships with other loach keepers from around the world and share in our knowledge and enjoyment of the hobby.
None of us come here wanting to see continual misinformative or childish posts, with every other sentence either slagging off someone/somewhere/something or using swear words!

Its a super super cool little fish. They're tiny but so interesting. They flap along like tiny manta rays or something its so cool- and they suck onto things with industrial epoxy strength. They need a crazy current though. These guys literally come from whitewater that you'd need a good raft and helmet and lifejacket to navigate.

I was so upset that they killed Data, speaking of TNG... Now there's that B4 thing. I don't like the character. I heard rumors that they're going to make one more TNG movie... but Data's dead so it just wont be the same- unless they manage to do a Spock. In the original movies spock dies and then comes back thanks to that Genesis project as a kid who grows up super quickly and they sort of 'reprogram' spock... so maybe they'll re-data Data...
