Thank you for your kind comments about the photos.

I was pretty amazed that they came out at all, with it being so dark in the shop at the time. The camera wouldn't focus in the tank where the bag was floating, so I had to go away to an area of the shop where there was light, get the camera to focus on something approx 12" away, locked the focus, then went back to the tank, stood about 12" away and took the pic!

Frank - they came in in superb condition (albeit a little thin - but that is easily remedied!) and continue to do well. I hope yours arrive in the same way on Sunday.

Absolutely Stunning!!

Mark, Emma's keeping these off-sale until we all meet up. We all should have a good go at picking out some Lovely ones.

Possible Schistura cincticauda then! Very Interesting!

I do keep one specimen that came in as a contaminant. I did keep him in with other Schistura's, however this lone Schistura was very Territorial to others and would simply dive into others territory's just to cause trouble. Now the lone Schistura balteata is living happily in the 'Grrr' Tank. The Schistura and Bottine don't interact with each other, which is good.

Great pics Emma ! iv'e had Balteata in the past , and i know there are a few colour varients available , i think someone posted a pic of one of these over on petfrd ! and what struck me about this particular type , was not only that beautiful body colour , but the wonderful contrast of the black and white dorsal , simply stunning ! as to its true i.d. well ,when a fish looks that good ha ha ha who cares , just kidding ! as for temprement i seem to recall mine being of a similar nature to S.Mahertna [red tail] shall we say a bit of attitude ,ha ha ha , well worth it though just joking about its i.d. it would be nice to find out , a job for the Darkone [Steve]

My lfs just got these in as well. They are calling them sumo loaches. I wasn't sure whay they might be since many had a lot of the striping but the bright pinky-coral middles were a giant id help after I got home. I'm glad I kept my impulsive buy thoughts under control, I don't have a grrr tank (yet, anyway

).

As I suspected, they are bickering with each other a lot. There is plenty of decor in the stock tank to break up their lines of sight, but they still come across each other and pick at each other pretty often.

Some are fatter than others (we will fix the skinnier ones

) and most notably many have different colourations to each other. Some are dark, some are of a pastel shade. Some have luminous yellow rear halves to the body, others pinky/orange.

I'd estimate their size to be approx 2.5 " TL.

Emma, how long did yours take to color up? Mine came in somewhat cool and rather pale.
