. I went back to the shop with the small sids & 5 of the 6 looked good, 1 was still thin. Not "skinny disease" behind the head thin but not as much underside (depth?) beyond the front edge of the dorsal fin. When I said I'd take the 5 but was concerned about the little 1, the guy asked if I take him for free. Of course I said yes since they'd been together a least a month & I knew he'd be very unhappy alone. My 20gal Q tank was already set up with gravel, plants & used water + filter on the off chance 
It's been a week & they're settling in nicely, the small 1 looks to have gain weight already. He looks especially cute with a 1/4 inch piece of blood worm trailing from his mouth & the rest in hot pursuit. They don't seem interested in veggies yet, do they eat them? I admit we never offered any when we had sids years ago.
The other thing I'm a little concerned about is the gravel size around 1/8 inch or so. They dig down head deep easily but 1 went past the tail-end of his dorsal & seemed to have a hard time backing out. Maybe he'll just have to learn & I need to get over the "new mom syndrome"
