Compatability chart

Post by adampetherick » Mon Dec 11, 2006 11:16 am

Would a compatability chart similar to below be possible for the community part like so?

http://www.coloradodirectory.com/maps/i ... ileage.gif

so you can have an easy look whaich loaches are compatable?

Changing the mileage to Y-Yes, N-No, C-Caution?

Personally I don't like the idea of a compatibility chart because there are just so many variables involved. I think 'general guidelines' for each species in the new species index will be far more helpful. What works for one person doesn't always work for another.

Even a "possibly" compatibility chart would be nice. Or even better a enviormentaly compatible chart. I do all right with the can't get along problems, but have trouble sometimes with their needs. i.e. I wouldn't have problems with my clowns and hillstreams firghting, but their temp requirements render them unsuitable tank mates. I want not just to keep my different loaches alive, I want them happy and alive for as close to forever as possible. My being able to access the loach desctiption section is, for some reason, and on and off deal.

Jokes aside, this chart will be useless even if you could find research ALL 2-species combination.

Tank size also matters.
The landscape in the tank also matters.
And some people may want to keep three or more species.
And you can easily have compatibility problems even if you keep only one species.

Schistura oedipus - Schistura lovemimumi
   !!!!!!
They'd be easier to breed than guppies!

Hmmm... does that mean if you asked advice on two loaches who had nearly identical water temp/pH etc requirements, with mild temperaments... it could be anyone's bet on what happened? :? Or what would one say to a combo they'd never heard of before??

Exactly mikev. It's far better to get a generalized opinion of a particular combination(s). There are no garauntees.

It's something about their wheels Helen..........

I'm cutting back on the skateboarding, but my knitting is getting quicker. I knitted an Eheim Pro filter the other day. Still having trouble with a couple or six leaks though. I've never done cheer-leading.....based on a previous post here I think someone else does though.
