Pangio unknown 01

Hi all,
I would like to hear from others keeping this fish as to size, what sizes are yours?
I have been keeping these since about September, all seem to have stopped growing at about two inches long & have filled out quite nicely. I do realise there still isn’t a great deal known about this fish, but do you think these fish will achieve the four inches estimated in the species index?

Sorry i cant help The-Lion. These are still unknown to many. You may have a point regarding there size though.

When I'm next in at the shop, I'll get some pics of any that we've got left in stock as they will have been with us for some months. Hopefully can get a ruler alongside them for comparison. From memory I'd say ours were a bit longer than 2".
It is always difficult with undescribed species, we really can only estimate their adult size with other fish of a similar description.

Is it possible the stated 4" was a paste-over from another profile and that was why a size was given? Most of our unknown species profiles have "Unknown" or an estimate of adult size.

You can always edit it Em. That's the beauty of the new site TheLion. We can alter things on a daily basis if needed. I just added another profile this evening.

I'm definitely no expert, but my experience of Pangio type fish thus far has seen them grow to their estimated length quite quickly then fill out but not really grow any longer, so seeing that my Panda khulies are now all quite stocky i don't see that they'll grow much more. Pangio Piperata in the profiles a very similar looking fish, has a two & half inch estimate do you think this is more likely?

Unrelated & a bit of a long shot i know but here goes. Some time around the end of summer Septemberish, there was a post showing many rare loaches, not the post with links to a chinese site but with pictures on the actual post. calling on those with a better memory than me, do you remember this post & could you help me find it please, I've searched with no success.

My little guys run about 3 to 3 1/4 inches in length and I've had them for almost two years now. Although the black ones fill out nicely, they are no where as near as overweight looking as the regular p.myers.

Did it feature a certain type of species in particular (e.g. Pangios), or lots of different species?

Hi Emma there where loads of different species, if i remember rightly the pictures where from books & the author of the post had actualy kept a lot of them.

Cheers for looking Emma, knowing my memory it was a completely different month. There was a couple of pictures of a botia type loach & if remember rightly it had a black body with a white irregular stripey pattern. I took an instant fancy to this fish as did a couple of others, i just can't recall the name & it's not a fish featured in the index nor in any books i've seen.

I had a good look at these Pangio's this evening, and although nice and fat (and some probable gravid candidates), none seem to be more than 2.5" TL. Most are between 2 and 2.25". Sorry I didn't manage a pic alongside a ruler, but here's one obliging little loachie sitting by the front glass:

I think it might be worth amending the profile to 3" max, as per Wendie's observations.

That's a great picture, looks to be as full bodied as any of mine. It's good to know there's a little more growth to come. Thanks for your help
