Loach with pinkish bands... "Sumo Loach"

Post by noki »

I can't figure out what this is, a cute semi-elongated loach with a few bright orange-pink bands. The bands may be somewhat indicative of pecking order(?) Thought they were kind of interesting and cute
Saw them lately and they were very cheap, but were probably all sick, so didn't buy (I went back to the store and they were all gone or dead (or both)). A new import? Found a pic at a crappy online store (ThatFishPlace.com), which calls them "Sumo Loach"...?

Similar but they definitely had bands, but most intense in mid body like those "Crimson Loaches". Most loaches were slighty different, some had more bands, some less. Some had very intense mid body bands.

Yes, they're a recent import.

Thanks, yes, that most be them

Quite unique looking

Importers must not be very impressed with them as they are very cheap

The price has been a main concern of mine, particularly given their unsuitability for standard community set-ups, which a lot of stores won't realise and explain to the customer. These chaps can be pretty fiesty and need a lot of flow in their aquarium (river-tank set ups work great) combined with lower temps.
