That's a beauty, Graeme. What sort of size is it? It looks quite similar to 2 or 3 species in Dr Tan's book (has yours arrived yet?). I'm sure Martin, Jim and others may be able to hazard a good guess later.
Cheers, Emma. Yeah i have the Book. This chap does look similar to a couple in Dr Tan's book, but this one seems to have more solid markings on him. Pondering time!
Think you're right there Shair. It has 9 basic body bands like Hendra's pictures. The tubercules difference is likely sexual or seasonal. I would like to see more pics of Graeme's fish, but my gut tells me it's a male.
That's a nice size gastro.
I sure wish I could come accross some different gastro species.
The other day, I went into a fish store I seldom visit in Indianapolis and found a tank full of gastros. There were ctenocephalus and a few scitulus. Unfortunately, there were a few dead ones in the tank so....well you know the rest.
I only see gastros around here about once or twice a year if I'm lucky, but maybe... eventually zebrinus, unknown 04, or some other beauty will show up ...and be healthy. I can only hope.
I've been lucky lately Jim, with finding Sinogastromyzon wui and Erromyzon sinensis and with the odd other Gastro. They seem to have some good contacts lately. I've even ordered some Danio roseus from them.
