Post by The-Lion »

Tropical fishfinder says an lfs near by is stocking Schistura sussanae, but that name doesn't as far as i can see appear in the species index. Has anybody heard of this fish?

Yes the Schistura susannae is a Vietnamese loach. If you can purchase the loach and take some profile pictures, and we will add it to the Species Index in the Community site. Thats the best thing with the Community site, you can add more into it. It might take sometime with all these Schistura's. 167 of them! :?

Here’s some pics of what the lfs are selling as Schistura sussanae, to my untrained eye they look very much like my Schistura vinciguerrae. They where fairly cheap so I brought a couple. What do you think?

 I was kind of hoping someone would confirm or trash my suspisions, that the fish pictured above is indeed Schistura vinciguerrae.

I think Schistura vinciguerrae are often mistaken for Schistura poculi and maybe even Schistura mahnerti, which as far as I am aware all come from the same area and have very similar markings.

Personally I would go with Schistura vinciguerrae as the other two dont seem to have the spots around the face and head that the Schistura vinciguerrae has.

I'd have to say I agree with MD.
Only counted 9 rays and the FB summary says 12. See if you can get a pic of any that might have 12...and look for a facial shot to see if there's a "small median incision in upper lip" on any of them.

If your store got them labeled as S. sussanae you might be able to ask them to contact the supplier with collection information and where they got the ID?

Btw--nice pics!
books. gotta love em!
