Am i the only one that loves the rare fish

Post by gorhaf » Thu Mar 22, 2007 11:00 am

I have been going through the species index and every time I see a loach that I must have I find out its rare or super expensive, or just not available anywhere near where I live. such as the Sinibotia reevesae I really want a tank full of these guys. Oh well I still have my dreams and my addiction to loaches. Some day I'll live in an area that has a lfs that knows what it is doing and has access to rare or even common loaches. On the bright side I can get all the Gold Dojos I want for $5 a piece so I should be happy with that.

You're lucky, here the gold dojos are rare and I had to drive 2 hours to houston (5 hour round trip due to traffic) to get my pair.

Believe me! It's a expensive passion for oddball/rare loaches!

One step at a time is wise.

You have it easy! My dream fish always turn out to be "readily avalible", but for Some Reason, I am the ONLY one on the PLANET who can't find them!   It took me 3 years to find kuhlis, when I finally did, there was one left in the tank and it was 6$. Go figure .

I don't know what's worse... Not being able to find your dream fish, or finally finding it and not having enough money to buy it .

Have you considered asking your LFS, or even a decent petstore, to order you whatever fish you have your eye on?

I never considered the possibility, but one day I was in my local petstore (small independant store which has a small, but good quality fish section- mostly guppies, tetras, goldfish- that sort of thing), and while buying my catfood got talking to the owner. I was bemoaning the fact that I mistakenly bought a single wheather loach in another shop, then realised they needed company and couldn't find anymore! He asked me to wait a moment, went into the back and came back with this 5 page list of various fish he can order from his supplier- and now I have some beautiful loaches! :)

I would love to get my hands on some of these. I have never seen them in all 14 years of loaching.
120 gallon planted aquaponic tank with 10 clown loachs, first one since 1994, 1 modesta and 3 striadas.

I regret not being able to get the Homalopteras otherwise I would have already gotten the fun seeing them dart across the tank. Shame on me for not being interested at first.

Not to worry...My friend is currently searching them for me.
