Mesonoemacheilus guentheri - aggressive towards corydoras?

Post by JWhipple »

I picked 3 Mesonoemacheilus guentheri (http://www.loaches.com/species-index/me ... -guentheri) up for the 38 gallon tank I setup in the office to replace my 55 that was destroyed by the drunken cleaning lady.

In the tank are 6 panda corys, and 3 peacock gudgeons.

The Mesonoemacheilus guentheri are very playful and interact with each other constantly, but since about 2 days after I added them, the corys rarely touch the substrate - they are "hiding" up in the branches/leaves of my live and artificial plants.

I haven't seen any aggression from the loaches, but I am not here all night - so who knows what has happened during the night.

Just trying to figure out what has happened - my corys just don't seem happy anymore!

Personally I wouldn't mix this species with Corydoras. M. guentheri can be fiesty and very territorial. This is probably what you are seeing, as they are claiming the bottom area for themselves.

Hmmm... Hard call to make then... Keep the corys - or the loaches...

 EGADS!

What was I thinking?!?!?!?! :D

I kept them both - I just took the M. guentheri home and gave to my daughter. She loves watching their antics, and they haven't bothered any of her gouramis - who could care less about the bottom of the tank!
