2.5g hillstream tank?

Post by mikev »

of course, for quarantining purposes only.

Did anyone try this?

It seems that using such a small tank would be most efficient when only a small number of small animals is involved. The question is what kind of filter and/or powerhead would be most suitable.

Perhaps a 70-100 g/h internal filter is all that is needed?

(My interest is caused by the sad realization that I cannot easily find floor space for another 10g... )

I'm using a five gallon Walmart version of an Eclipse(Regent Aqua-Tech 5) for a Qtank and that is definately as small as I would go. It has a biowheel and puts out about 70 or 80 gph. I added an airstone to the tank. I only have two fish in there now and I will only use it for small numbers.

Yes, I was primarily thinking about 1-2 fish situations. I simply cannot afford using up a 10g for a couple of months for so few...

I'll look into the Eclipse, thank you.

I would go with the Walmart version (the Regent) its cheaper. I got the tank, which includes hood with built in light and filter w/biowheel for $40. I think the Eclipse version is a gallon larger and about $20+ more. The Regent appears to be made by Marineland also.

Petco has a 5 gal hex kit for $31.99 in their cicrular this week. it has a biowheel filter, incandesent lamp (I replaced it with one of those screw in flor. that you can get at wallmart for $5). Doesn't use alot of space

Its what I use for my Q-tank (as well as snail production)
