Loaches don't eat other loaches, right?

Post by ensign_lee » Sun Jun 03, 2007 12:16 pm

It took trips and phone calls to lots of the fish stores here in Houston, but I finally found some Kuhlis. :) I've been wanting them for awhile and finally have the facilities to house them now.

Problem is, they're all really little. Like little enough to fit in the mouths of say, my clown loaches.

Clown loaches won't EAT my kuhlis, right?

Expensive snack for your clowns :( . If they will fit in their mouths they will eat them.If not this week in a few as the clowns will grow much faster and larger than the kuhli's.My small clowns eat X-large live whole earthworms like pixie-sticks.

I would say it would depend on the size difference. Clown loaches don't normally eat other loaches (or other fish) but tiny kuhlis could look rather worm-like to larger clown specimens. Also Clown loaches and kuhli loaches have very different aquarium requirements and are not a good combination in my opinion.

Really? I thought they both had about the same water requirements, temp requirements, etc.

Clown loaches prefer extremely fast flowing waters, whereas the kuhli loaches come from more calm environments.

How little are they? I just found it hard to belive they would "mistaken" them for worms or something.

Kuhli's look about 1.5" to 1.75" long, except for 1 who was the coolest, most energetic of the bunch, who was only 1" long.

My clowns are about 1" to 1.5" long. But I know they grow, and the little one seems skinny enough that he could just fit in one of their mouths.

I don't want to get kuhli's just to send them to their deaths. Maybe I should get more clowns? :?
