I just wanted to thank everyone here for being so open and willing to answer all my questions - I'll have more, I'm sure. Hopefully someday I'll actually be able to answer some!

I finally got out the tripod and took some pictures of our tanks:

Here's the 'free' 20g that got us into fish in the first place (first imagine it with blue gravel, big red lava rocks, and plastic plants):

Here you can see a few Kuhlis, a Skunk Cory, and an Oto if you look closely:

What I love about this tank is how non-aggressive each group of fish is. The motionless hatchets are a perfect contrast to our hyperactive kuhlis:

And here's the 55g, home to the Sids, Danios, and SAEs. We've got some Cardinal Tetras and Otos waiting in quarantine:

No closeups of that one - I can never find the Sids.

Beautiful tanks!
Yes, I can imagine blue gravel, red lava and plastic plants.
My driveway has some areas of rainbow colored gravel!
38 tanks, 2 ponds over 4000 liters of water to keep clean and fresh.

nice planted tank...
Just watch the dwarf hair grass.. You should break up the bunch in 8th or more and spread them out.. Algae will cover them when planted in bunches like that.

and keep up with the ferts & CO2.

you're all so kind! Of course when I look at them, I see all sorts of things I want to improve, and mistergreen, I know you're right about the hairgrass. We haven't had any problems with algae on it so far - the kuhlis and shrimp are always in there to shake things up, but I think overall it will do better and look better spread out a little more.

I also have more than half a mind to rip everything out of the 55g just to see if I really do have six Sids in there. I only ever see four :(

Really great job.

Just one question. Why use airstone ( if that is airstone, somewhere in the middle of the last picture ) with so many plants probiding more than enough oxygen?

Very nice ! It's always a pleasure to see a tank designed for the fish rather than the people. I have always thought we can make our tanks very comfortable for the fish we shelter, and still pleasing to the human eye. :D

Ded1, That's a CO2 injector, not an airstone - you're right, an airstone wouldn't add much, with all the plants!

Roberoo, I love what you said about designing for fish not people. Nature designs for fish, and who's to argue with the beauty of nature?
