Thanks Jim I've noticed in the species index non of the ctenos have spotted backs like mine, just bars. Is the species index out of date?

Well, Erik, for years, most people (myself included) have been incorrectly calling the fish you have G. punctalatus. It is now been correctly identified
as G. ctenocephalus or the spiney headed hillstream loach.
The fish listed as ctenocephalus in the species index has now been correctly identified as G. oscellatus. To further complicate things, there is another species that very similar to your fish but has larger dots along the dorsal area, no blue on the dorsal fin, and less blue on the tail. That is G. scitulus.
We once thought that was just a regional variation of ctenocephalus.
So, you are not the only person who is confused.
At some point, the species index will be redone on a large scale to include all the changes in loach taxonomy that have occurred in the last couple of years.

Eeeerrr ....Erik :? . While it is nice that you find my multi-hillstream gif nice enough to want to use it, it is part of MY signature, and you didn't ask to use it.

Jim's now got his own, has as Cybermeez and I will be working on Emma's tonight. Jim's was a gift, 'meez's too. Emma asked nicely. If you'd like your own, tell me what you would like and I'll try to comply.
I enjoy doing this stuff and if the regulars would like something personal I will see what I can do. I think it would be really cool for the site if we had our own personal animated loachy sigs and really make this site stand out to visitors.

Martin.
