Anyone know of Y. caudipunctata seen in the trade recently??? One of my all time favorites. I have 3 in my 80 gallon right now, looking to add a few more.

Lemme know if they have been in the trade or on order lists.

If you have seen them, could you mention the common name they were being sold under?

I don't think these have been seen for a while now, Mike. These are also one of my look-out loaches but to no avail. I have seen some Yasuhikotakia lecontei on order lists though. Not the same though compared to the good old Speckletail loach is it!

Hi,

there are some (for me) undefined loaches at a hardware store-chain, which the store gets from Czech-Rep. I went there with camera, but was not allowed to take a pic of those

... they come with and without sprinkled tails... caudipunctata comes closest...
I tried to define them earlier, as I like them very much however, they may be to agressive. They are marked as "modesta" ( http://forums.loaches.com/viewtopic.php ... dipunctata )

... oh, need to mention, thats in Germany...

Hi Mike,
They've not appeared on any of the lists I have access to for some years now (and that's quite a lot of different suppliers). They wouldn't get past my beady eyes if they were about!

Yasuhikotakia lecontei have just started appearing again though (as Graeme has already mentioned).

Thanks all. Well I located a place, called "Rumoford Pet Center" in Rhode Island where I got B. caudipunctata a couple of years ago being sold as yellow tailed loaches, mixed in with "red tailed botia" that turned out to be Botia eos. They are selling these "yellow tailed and red tailed" botias again and I have asked them to hold them for me until this weekend. We will see what comes of it.

Hi Mike , i was lucky enough to pick a few up , about ooh, roughly two years ago , i've got 4 , they are nice ! does anyone know what the full size of these loaches is ? mine are about 3 inches standard length ,whilst moving these into a different tank a while back , one of the little buggers spiked my thumb OUCH.

Yeah I got mine a couple years ago as well. Hmm must have been a "wave" of them being imported or appearing as contaminants to another loach batch.

Anyways, thanks for the help guys, im sure I will find some sooner or later.

How are they behaving in your setup? agressive? do you keep them with other fish?

If I remember correctly The Wolf had Y. caudipunctata and he had them with Yoyo's, Clown's, striata's and kubotai's among others and if I recall correctly he said they had a few short spats but overall they were fine

I currently keep my trio with Clowns, Micronemacheilus pulcher, B. lecontei, B. kubotai, some Arulius barbs and Congo tetras and Denisonii barbs w/ some plants. They get along fine for the most part.

Yeah i'd agree , not to aggressive, mine are in with a group of 8 S.Berdmorei, 1 S. Beauforti, 5 skunks , a few Garra's , and 4 Scaphognathops sp/ mind i suppose most of these aren't short on attitude ! although in fairness this community seems to work ,oh i forgot,and 3 Balteata's [sumo loaches ]

Cheers Graeme! I find Y. caudipunctata to be one of the most intriguing species in the Botiine family. Anyone else finiding it hard to write Y. caudipunctata instead of B. caudipunctata. I can't get used to it. Its time to overrule the reclassification!
