Update:

Freckles are getting still worse on all five clowns. They infest their fins and are all over their faces and their bodies. I'm seriously considering putting the salt in that tank because just isn't going away.

I'd like to... but the camera is full. I have to wait until space is cleared on it (not my camera). Sorry, but soon I hope :(

You moved your fish with you from Alaska? That is great if you did.

Salt will just mask the problem if there is one. Salt will clean the spots away, but once you remove the salt the spots will probably come back. You need to find the root of the problem if there is one.

I'm very glad you ordered the TDS meter. I hope it helps you resolve this issue. It will still be very usefull even if it doesn't. A TDS meter will give you an immediate knowledge of an important water parameter.

Yes, I moved them all the way from Alaska as carry-on baggage. I lost many of the smaller loaches doing that, but I had no choice, and no time to properly prepare. I almost wish I didn't move them because I've had no end of problems. I've endured two epidemics already.

We will see what the TDS meter says. And thanks for all the help, everyone.

Well that is weird. The spots were so bad yesterday, but I wake up this morning, and they're all gone! It's like the loaches never had them. I don't even have the TDS meter yet (it's in the mail). I'm relieved, but that was very strange, since I didn't change anything in the tank. I replaced half the water 3 days ago, and after that change, the freckles were getting really bad but now... all gone.

I'm confused!

Me too... though they have had these spots for roughly more than a week, with absolutely no change in eating or activity.

Icewall- great looking fish! Quick question- did you add any snails or new fish to the tank recently?

Nope, nothing new. I added some live plants, but this was after the spots developed. When spots developed, absolutely nothing new was added for a couple weeks.

Oh, and thank you :)

You are certainly welcome. Here's the reason I asked... http://en.allexperts.com/q/Freshwater-A ... -spots.htm

Sounded like what you might be seeing- worth a read, anyhow.

My loaches and I will keep good thoughts for you and yours :D
