Guys thats some great info about loach life span and growth. My fish keeping experience is pretty limited so im really glad to arouse debate about an interesting and important topic. It would be helpful to have info on more species growth rates, limits and life spans. I recon 10+ years for a yoyo is pretty good for a 6 inch fish. I would love to give you some feed back some day about Kubotai's and Zebra's... IF ONLY I COULD FIND SOME IN BRISBANE AUSTRALIA  :x :(

Hello Robert,
IF ONLY I COULD FIND SOME IN BRISBANE AUSTRALIA
But you are so close to their home soil. Even here in Brazil I can find them. Not everyday, not everywhere but quite frequent.
At this very moment I´m calling my local petshop to ask about my new kubotai that are in QT waiting for me.

Hi Marcos, Regarding availability of Kubotai. Your probably right they must be out there somewhere, I will just look harder. The look on the faces of shop owners has been amusing however! How expensive are Kubotai's in Brazil relative to Clowns?

I´m afraid they are more expensive than clown at same sizes. Clown loach here vary in price acording to their size (3 to 8cm) between US$ 10 to 40. Larger Clown loaches are not very frequent but I have already seen some 15-18cm ones at US$ 100 while a 6cm kubotai never under US$ 20. YoYo are the cheapiest among loaches here: US$ 6 for a 4 to 5cm long.

It is interesting how price varies from place to place. Prices here (Oz) are probably good. I can get Yo Yo's for about A$6 at 1.5". Clowns on average are about A$9 at nearly 2".
