Taking a look at what is available around... Does anyone know what is this?

The loach came as a contaminant with Tigers, seems very shy (hiding all of the time, unlike the tigers, about 3"+). I'm guessing it to be an adult Y.Lecontei?. The tigers it came with are

One more: the label on the tank was "Mountain Botia -- Homaloptera Sp."

i'm guessing Schistura kohchangensis despite their smaller size (1.5"-2")

You're correct and the Tiger is Syncrossus helodes.

Thanks, Martin!

I guess Lecontei is not for me (I feel sorry for the chap...he has been there for a few months)....but I've noticed that the article on Schistura kohchangensis lacks the usual "territorial schistura" warnings.... they sound like a fish my Zippers and Schisturas can deal with... NNNice. :D

Hi Mike , those S.Kohchangensis look fantastic ! i'd certainly be getting some no doubt about that ! as for that Y.Leconte , they are'nt common , and they are pretty gentle for a mid to largish loach , but it is down to personal choice , as for the Helodes , i love em BUT they do have plenty of attitude , and can be very aggresive , especially if kept as a lone fish !

I think I'll grab a few schisturas... No rush, there is no way the store will sell them anytime soon.... Tigers I'm certainly staying away from, especially that they are pretty common here and I don't have any place even for a small scoal. Now, your "pretty gentle for a mid to largish" loach makes me hesitate.....I never saw a large Lecontei before, and it is something different....probably not, but still thinking...

Hi Milev , i can only speak from experience ! the Leconte i have kept were always problem free , even at 6 inches , i.e. 150mm's, at one time i had about six in a 4ft tank, though on the down side i always found them to be shy and retiring ! but a nice addition .

Strong desire and cold feet....

The only place I could put him would be the 125g which already has clowns, yoyo's, kubs, zippers, schisturas and kuhlis...and a large new fish is probably all it would take to totally unbalance it.

Oh darn. I'll go take a look at him again....

Perhaps someone around NY wants this guy? He is not an every day find ...pm me for the store address if you want.
