Lovely, Mark. That chap has coloured up very nicely indeed! Do you have more than one H. smithii? If so, have they all taken on this gorgeous red colouration? The ones we have at work are a mixture, some greeny, some with a bit of red.

I still have a pair of them. Sometimes they're red, sometimes they're a blonde colour. Brine shrimp and bloodworms must surely help them colour up.

Mark, under normal lighting conditions, does this fish appear red?
I have seen many of these fish and never seen one with so much red.

Emma is actually planning on sending me a pic to reduce for avatar use at some time. Apparently, she has no recent pictures of herself, but will take some. See...and some people thought this new format was yuck.....so many possible fun ways of using it. It's nice to actually see faces.

Jim: I think the amount of redness is due to the flash - they normally look kind of brown, either light or dark depending on what surface they're against. And I'm older (aren't we all!) than that tiny one-time passport photo. Heavier eye bags and whiter hair...

In moments like this, of such unutterable displays of generosity - nay, humanity! - I am reminded how I came to like Martin, and enjoy his company.
