Listen... Just muscle in and announce that the loach is needed for correct ID via LOL, that the authors of a new book on loaches have pressed you for this, and that he/she has little hope of independently identifying the fish anyway.

Barring that, try and get some closeup photos.

He said he found another one in the tank last night! Now he has two, one is very small but the same markings. I can have the one, he said. YEY!! I'll get photos and let you know how it behaves over time. :D
