This thread has pics of mine and Lee's tanks from a few months ago. Mine are further down on the first page and Lee's are on the second page.

Woah. Some great images there Dave. Loads of them. Loach heaven ! Both Lee and your tanks looking good ! Trying my best to narrow down my choice of tankmates for my Loach tank - not happening. :? Its Kuhlis and . . .

Kuhli's are sort of the odd one out of the tropical loaches as they don't like much current. On the plus side there are loads of different kinds of kuhli! For non-loachy companions I reckon an army of Corydoras pygmaeus would probably get on well enough with them.

I noticed you guys mostly have fairly sparsely planted tanks: coconuts with man made holes certainly accomodate loaches well as well as stacks of rocks, but how about numerous small to medium anubias grafted onto pieces of bogwood to form a kind of "maze" and naturally formed "caves" of roots and wood. (It makes the loach santuary look very natural and lush if you arrange the anubias correctly).

Just an idea. My loaches seem to enjoy it, pity my camera is so lousy.

My kuhli tank is densely planted. There is additional flow at the top, but the bottom is nice and dark and slow. They seem pleased.

hey mark what do you do to get those java ferns to grow like that ? mine grow but the leaves never get really large. they reproduce but stay really small. granted there are other plants in there that may be competing for nutrients.

what kind of light, filter and C02 if any, are you using?

mmmm... anubias. 1st and 3rd tanks are best looking.

By the way what is a "road trip" tank. A tank you take on holidays? lol

One of those things... Maybe doing nothing is what's best. There's two regular three foot fluorescent tubes. I have an Aquaclear 30 plus a 201 Powerhead. No extra CO2. I have to prune the Microsorum back as the leaves tend to grow out of the water and shrivel.

Dave - Id actually enjoy seeing some Corydoras pygmaeus in there with my Kuhlis, nice idea, noted, thanks.

Directorate - that is spot on in my opinion, its how i want my Loach/bottom dweller tank to look - really natural, a slice of habitat with lots of bogwood, a few plants, a tiny bit of shade and an area free to swim about in if they are in a crazy mood (ie - feeding time !). I think you should post some photos, im desperate for ideas along those lines, dont worry about your camera ! :D

Mark - thats a great tank, i bet your Loaches love being in there, rooting around and resting in with the plants.

Shari - Id have to agree with Directorate, the 1st and 3rd tanks are my faves, stunning setups. The New Road Trip tank is brilliant, exactly what i mean by natural, its not too organised and its cosy looking. I browse around the plantedtank type forums a bit and most of the layouts in them are boring and samey to me, they look so fake and artificial despite all the effort that goes into designing them.

This is becoming a memorable thread. Keep it going.
